Aiden McGeady, Daryl Horgan and Andy Boyle have been selected for the Republic of Ireland’s upcoming World Cup qualifier against Wales.

The trio will also be in contention to appear in a friendly against Iceland a few days later.

There is no place for fellow North End players Alan Browne or Greg Cunningham, who hasn’t been involved with his country since 2013.

All three started in Saturday’s 3-0 home win over Reading in the Championship, with Horgan firing his way onto the scoresheet and providing an assist in the match, while Boyle also set-up Tom Barkhuizen for the side’s third goal.

McGeady is also in fine form for the Deepdale club and was named as the division’s Player of the Month just last week after scoring three goals and making four assists in February.

The international break takes place after this weekend’s round of fixtures, where North End travel to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday. Ireland face Wales at home on Friday 24 March before also playing host to Iceland on Tuesday 28 March.

Burnley’s Jeff Hendrick, Stephen Ward and Robbie Brady are also in the squad.
