The Trawlermen have lost just once at home in the league this season back in September

Fleetwood extended their unbeaten run at home to 15 matches with a hard-fought 2-1 win against promotion-chasing Bradford at Highbury Stadium.

Bradford went ahead courtesy of Jordy Hiwula, who fired a driven effort straight past Fleetwood goalkeeper Alex Cairns two minutes before the interval.

Former Bantams stiker Devante Cole pulled Fleetwood level, bundling the ball home after Ashley Hunter’s cross with just over 20 minutes left.

Conor McLaughin sealed victory for the Trawlermen with nine minutes remaining, his driven cross from the right-hand side ricocheting off Rory McArdle and beyond his own keeper.

Bradford had the first clear cut chance with 11 minutes gone, Nicky Law’s free-kick being headed straight over the bar by McArdle from six yards out.

Hiwula looked to try his luck from close range but was denied by a great stop from the legs of Fleetwood goalkeeper Alex Cairns.

Charlie Wyke had an opportunity to open the scoring for the Bantams but heaved James Meredith’s left-hand cross into the stand from close range.

At the other end, Cameron Brannagan looked to work Doyle but his driven shot was straight down the throat of the Bradford stopper.

Bradford had a penalty appeal turned down after Wyke went down under the challenge of Town’s Clan Bolger inside the box just after the half-hour mark but referee Ross Royce waved away the protests.

Hiwula broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute, powering a left-footed shot beyond Doyle and straight into the bottom-right corner.

Alex Gilliead had a golden opportunity to double City’s lead but blazes a shot over the bar after Ben Davies made a great block on the line to deny Nicky Law.

Cole levelled the scores with 22 minutes remaining, diverting Hunter’s cross beyond Doyle from close range.

Bobby Grant had a chance to put Town ahead for the first time in the match but his free-kick was comfortable for Doyle.

Into the last 10 minutes, McLaughlin’s arrowing shot from the right-hand side was diverted off McArdle and into the back of his own net.
